One of the most beloved names in calligraphy and illustration products is Speedball. Do you know how it got its name? In 1913 the C. Howard Hunt Pen Company (est. in 1899) enlisted the help of master letterers Ross F. George and William H. Gordon to find a way to improve the lettering tools commonly used. The result was a nib that had a reservoir, which was given the nickname “speedball” since it cut working time in half due to its efficient design.

We also carry other favorite names, like Winsor & Newton, Sheaffer and Dr. Ph. Martin’s.
